The resurfacing or renovation decision
Resurfacing deals with the inside of the pool: the surface you see and feel through the water. It suits a pool whose shell, layout and equipment are sound but whose interior has become rough, stained or patchy. If the coping, tiles, equipment or fence also need work, a pool renovation covers the wider job, and resurfacing can be part of it.
What to compare in a resurfacing quote
Resurfacing quotes are easy to compare badly, because two prices can describe very different work. Ask each quote to state:
- The new finish. QBCC lists the interior finish among the details a pool contract should spell out.
- Surface preparation. How the old surface will be removed or prepared before the new one goes on.
- Waterline and coping. Whether waterline tiles or coping are included or excluded.
- Draining and refilling. Who drains the pool, who refills it and when it can be used.
- Warranty. What warranty applies to the new surface.
Ask too whether the quote covers problems found once the pool is drained.
After the new surface goes on
Ask how the water should be balanced and the filtration run once the pool is refilled. For licence checks and contracts, see the pool building guide.
Next step for your pool surface
Send your suburb, the pool type and what the surface looks like now. A photo helps but is not needed.
